MUSKEGON, Mich.– The City of Muskegon has received a $25,000 grant to help build the city’s first off-leash dog park.
The City of Muskegon, the Community Foundation for Muskegon County and Downtown Muskegon Now started raising money in 2014 to lease vacant property downtown to build a dog park. The park project was received so well by the public that the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) agreed to match every dollar raised, doubling their initial $42,000 raised to $84,000.
Muskegon is one of 25 cities nationwide that were picked by PetSafe’s ‘Bark for Your Park’ program, a program created in 2011 to help communities build off-leash dog parks. The $25,000 grant from PetSafe gave Muskegon the extra push they needed make their idea a reality.
The new dog park will be built in downtown Muskegon at the corner of W. Western Ave. and Shoreline Dr. featuring large and small dog areas, pet waste stations, drinking fountains and seating areas.
