WEST MICHIGAN – Most of West Michigan woke up to lightning and thunder Wednesday morning as a line of storms moved through the area.
The National Weather Service issued Severe Thunderstorm Warnings briefly for Kent and Ottawa Counties from 8:45am to 9:30am. The weather service reported top wind gusts of 38 mph at about 8:45am near Grand Haven and a 36 mph gust at the lighthouse in Whitehall at 8:22am. A gust of 30 mph was reported at Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids at 9:40am.
A few locations near Grand Rapids also reported small hail. A Comstock Park home was hit by lightning causing minor damage.
