PORT HURON, Mich.- Krista Ferguson’s dream of becoming Miss Michigan USA came true Saturday night when the 23-year-old was crowned Miss Michigan USA 2017 at the McMorran Area.
Ferguson will now have the chance to compete in next year’s Miss USA pageant and the winner will then advance to the “Miss Universe” competition.
This is Ferguson’s second time competing for the title after placing first-runner up in the 2016 competition.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help Ferguson raise the $995 it cost to enter the competition for the second year. She raised nearly $500 of her goal.
Ferguson told her fans on the GoFundMe page that winning the title would “mean so much to me” as this last year has been quite a journey for her, struggling with Type 1 diabetes.
Participants competed in three categories: swimsuit judging, evening gown judging and the personal interview.
