GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A man who police say was involved in a domestic dispute and later caused a lengthy standoff is now in custody.

The incident started at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of Van Buren Avenue NW.  Police were called to a potential domestic dispute involving a couple.  When officers arrived, they made contact with the two individuals. A 45-year-old man was holding a knife, and refused to drop it, retreating back into the home.  The officers were able to get the woman out safely.

After that, police called additional units to the scene to set up a perimeter, urging people to avoid the area and letting neighbors know what was happening. After five hours of attempting to make contact with the suspect, officers entered the home.  The suspect had managed to slip away before the perimeter was established.

Police tell FOX 17 that early Wednesday morning, they located the suspect.  He was tased and taken into custody.
