NASHVILLE, Mich. -- After a man shot himself several times with a nail gun, officers "deployed less than lethal rounds" to keep him from doing more harm, said the Nashville Police Department.

An NPD officer was called to a house on Francis Street in the town around 1:40 a.m. Friday when dispatch received a call on a suicidal man. When the officer arrived, he found the man pointing a nail gun at the officer.

At one point, the man rushed at the officer while pointing the nail gun at him.

After Barry County Sheriff's deputies arrived to help, the man ran into a garage, where officers found him, again holding the nail gun. Officers told him to put it down, but he didn't.

That's when the man started shooting nails into himself.

Deputies then fired on the man with what the department decribed as "less than lethal rounds."

The man was flown to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
