Icy roadway leads to 3 injuries in Cass County rollover

CASS COUNTY, Mich. — Three people were injured in a one-vehicle rollover crash at midday Saturday.

According to Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr., at noon Saturday his office responded to a report of a one-vehicle rollover on Dutch Settlement Street in Wayne Township.

The investigation showed that a vehicle driven by Sandra Merckley, 28, of Dowagiac was traveling eastbound on Dutch Settlement when Merckley lost control on the icy roadway, the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned.

Three people were transported to the hospital by ambulance for evaluation and treatment.

Underwood said alcohol was not a factor in the collision and seat belts were worn by all occupants.

The accident remains under investigation.

Assisting the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were the Pokagon Band Tribal Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers, the Dowagiac Police Department, the Wayne Township Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance.
