WEST MICHIGAN - Thousands of people attended parades and memorials on Memorial Day 2017.
172 flags were placed perfectly in Elmwood Cemetery Monday, setting the tone for the first of four memorial services hosted by American Legion Post 287 in Cedar Springs. Ceremony proceedings were aided with the help of the Cedar Springs High School band and a handful of volunteers. Gordon Frost, the Chaplin for post 287 said every year the meaning of Memorial Day seems to sink in deeper.
"It takes a lot of lost lives to maintain our freedom," said Frost. "Freedom does not come free, there is a price and there is a cost."
Thousands more flocked to Jenison and Grand Haven for Memorial Day parades and festivities. Please feel free to add your photos to the list below.
