19 AGs sue DeVos for delaying for-profit college rules

(AP) – Democratic attorneys general in 18 states and the District of Columbia are suing Education Secretary Betsy DeVos over her decision to suspend rules meant to protect students from abuses by for-profit colleges.

The lawsuit was filed Thursday in federal court in Washington and demands implementation of borrower defense to repayment rules.

The rules aim to make schools financially responsible for fraud and forbid them from forcing students to resolve complaints outside court.

They were created under President Barack Obama’s administration and were to take effect July 1.

On June 14, DeVos announced the rules would be delayed and rewritten, saying they created “a muddled process that’s unfair to students and schools.”

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is leading the lawsuit and says DeVos’ decision is “a betrayal of her office’s responsibility and a violation of federal law.”

She should be relieved of her duties as you can see she is incapable of doing her job. FIRE the worthless woman, she HATES traditional public schools. Public monies should NOT be used for charter schools as these are schools for profit. Charters use are tax money to make a profit for themselves.

She may hate public schools, George, but she loves you! Lighten up. The superintendent of the GRPS likes her just fine, and I’m guessing that she’s a much better judge than you. Your dislike for DeVos is the fact that she’s a Republican and no more.

I have been in education all my life where she has not. What she is doing is destroying all education. She is just thinking of her profits from her Detroit charter schools she owns. This has Nothing to do with republicans or Demorcrates. Open your eyes and see what she really is doing to education and get off your high horse.

I’ll stand by my words, George. I’ll value Teresa Weatherall Neal’s opinion over yours any time. Also, charter schools are public schools and they adhere to the same state standards as a public school. You claim to have been in education for some time. So what? The teacher’s unions have been backing Democrats for many years and your liberal views are evidence of that.

I serve on a school board and charter schools do NOT adhere to the same standards and that is FACT. They do not have to report all finances like traditional schools. Please get YOUR facts first before you speak.
