NORTON SHORES, Mich. — Norton Shores Fire Department investigators don’t know yet what started a house fire Friday afternoon in Muskegon County, but they say the house is a total loss. Damage-in-dollars has not been totaled up yet.
Fire Captain Andy Casperson told FOX 17 at 10:05 p.m. Friday that fire crews had just left the scene of the fire moments ago, in the 4000 block of Eastlake Road. It broke out around 4:51 p.m. near US-31, where heavy black smoke was visible to motorists.
Captain Casperson says three people and two dogs inside the house escaped the fire, which was “well-involved” by the time the first firefighters arrived on the scene.
He described the home as an “unusual structure”, having a geothermal heating/cooling system, with part of the one-story structure underground.
Assisting Norton Shores firefighters at the scene were crews from the Fruitport Fire Department.
