KENTWOOD, Mich. — A fire in the bus garage canceled classes at Kelloggsville Public Schools on Friday, according to the district's transportation director.

The Kentwood Fire Department (KFD) says they were notified just after midnight of the fire at the bus garage next to Southeast Kelloggsville Elementary on 52nd Street.

KFD Fire Chief Brent Looman said the fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes and all fire units remained for several hours to put out hot spots.

Kelloggsville Public Schools Transportation Director Kristin Nickelson told FOX 17 six of their 14 buses have been declared a total loss due to the fire.

Nickelson says once school resumes, the district will rent buses from neighboring districts until they can replace theirs.

At this time, they are planning to bring kids back on Monday, April 22.

Nickelson adds no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown, but an investigation is ongoing.

Crews from the Salvation Army's Grand Rapids Emergency Disaster Services - Great Lakes Division got up early to bring canteen services for firefighters on scene.
