BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Police say two people were shot and killed overnight in Battle Creek.

It happened after midnight in the 100 block of Rittenhouse Avenue where friends say they were honoring the birthday of Elijah Williams who passed away last year in an accidental shooting.

Battle Creek Police say the victims are a 23-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man.

Police have not yet identified the victims, but family and friends have identified the victims to FOX 17.

Michael Moss says he is the brother to Leon Jackson, 30, who died in the shooting along with his friend Diamond King, 23, after someone opened fire during a memorial birthday party in honor of their friend.

Family and friends tell FOX 17 that Diamond was a mother of two toddlers, a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old.

Moss says he got a call late Monday night saying that his brother had been involved in a shooting.

"Leon was a guy who minded his own business, he stayed out of the way, he was only out here to celebrate the memorial of Eli," Moss said.

No word on a suspect in this case.
