KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 69-year-old Kalamazoo man missing since December has been found dead in Detroit, authorities said. Another man is in custody on murder charges.

Kalamazoo police said William Henry Gray was last seen on Dec. 29 on the 1200 block of Rose Street, early that morning. They immediately began looking for him and released a picture of his vehicle to the public. Detectives knew instantly though that his disappearance was suspicious.

"It was pretty evident ongoing that we were very concerned about Mr. Gray’s welfare," said KDPS Capt. Shannon Bagley. "It was just a matter of trying to put some pieces of a puzzle together to locate him."

During the investigation, police arrested 34-year-old Shanadore Rice of South Haven. He was arraigned Thursday on open murder charges. Police are still investigating the case and are asking anyone with information to contact them at (269) 337-8994 or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.

"Our condolences go out to the Gray family," said Capt. Bagley during an interview at headquarters. "The investigation is still, is ongoing. So we’re not done yet."
